ABOUT MAAA

Our History

Since 2013, the Madison Area Arts Alliance has worked hard to build an effective arts advocacy organization. We are a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit, building, inspiring, and nurturing a sustainable arts movement in the Madison, Indiana area!

Our genesis occurred at the 2012 Feed The Arts, an organized community conversation. This event brought 55 people, mostly artists, together for a retreat. Feed the Arts began the discussion and showed the need for arts in our community. There was clear consensus to develop an arts council. The Blue Sky team - comprised of 11 wide-ranging artists, a facilitator and leader - met weekly for months to dream. This team founded the Madison Area Arts Alliance. Attendance at the Indiana Arts Commission’s “Creating Vibrant Communities through the Arts” event at Hanover College fueled the fire, and here we are!

Join Us!

We are proud of our ground up approach to the arts movement with many artists and creative community members taking leadership roles, filling board positions, and volunteer commitments. In partnership with the City of Madison and Visit Madison, Inc., the MAAA secured Madison’s designation as an official Indiana Cultural District through the Indiana Arts Commission.

The Alliance is growing! We have many artists, patrons, businesses, and industries financially supporting our efforts. The Madison Area Arts Alliance is a strong voice to nurture, inform, and promote the importance of our creative community as an economic generator. MAAA works to bridge business with the arts - forging new partnerships and encouraging new discussions about our amazing creative community.
