About MAAA

We are so proud of the ground up approach to the arts movement with many artists and creative community members taking leadership roles, filling board positions, and volunteer commitments.  How we started. . . beginning with the 2012 Feed the Arts, an organized community conversation brought 55 people, mostly artists together for a retreat. Feed the Arts began the discussion and asked several key questions about the need for arts in our community.  There was a clear conclusion to Feed the Arts-to develop an arts council. Feed the Arts started the conversation and the Blue Sky team continued the discussion–the Blue Sky team met weekly for months to dream–this team, made up of 11 artists from all art forms, along with a facilitator and a leader–started the Madison Area Arts Alliance. Attendance at Indiana Arts Commission’s “Creating Vibrant Communities through the Arts” at Hanover College, fueled the fire and here we are!

Since late 2013, Madison Area Arts Alliance, a grass-roots 501 ( c) 3 non-profit organization, facilitated by Bill Barnes of the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County and led by artist, Bob Saueressig and a collection of 10 additional artists, have worked hard to build a new arts advocacy organization. Madison Area Arts Alliance (MAAA) has participated in the Indiana Arts Commission’s Community Consultancy Planning Program and partnered with the City of Madison and visitmadison, Inc. to secure Madison’s designation as an official  Indiana Cultural District
